Getting started with Hybrid (iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Windows) App in Apache Cordova and Visual Studio 2015

Microsoft has come up with  very useful tool integration this time in Visual Studio 2015. They have integrated Apache Cordova tools with this version of Visual Studio. You can download it it using online installer. But if you want to download it offline installer get it from my previous article Download Visual Studio 2015 RC offline installer (ISO).

Apache Cordova tools were available separately for Visual Studio 2013 also and you can download the from this link.

After download and install Visual Studio 2015 or Apache Cordova Tools (in case of Visual Studio 2013) we will first create and Hello World application.

Open Visual Studio instance and create new project. In create new project wizard go to installed templates and there you have to select Apache Cordova Apps. Now select Blank app and click Ok after giving name to your application.

This will create an blank application displaying a single line message “Hello, your application is ready!”. If you run this app on your phone it will look like below screenshot (taken on android device).

If you want sample of this hello world app you can get it from here.

You can also debug application on emulator. Android, Windows Phone and Windows emulator are downloaded with Visual Studio and for iOS emulator you need a Mac machine where you can install emulator and VS tools to connect remotely for emulator debugging.

Another easy way for debugging non-native module is using Ripple for Android and iOS available in Visual Studio.
